The Dr. John Martyn Lewis Angel Fund is designed to provide financial assistance for approved patients in need.

When a patient qualifies for the Angel Fund:

• Veterinarians donate 100% of their professional services
• The clinic donates all procedure-related fees
• Angel Fund resources are used only for necessary supplies and medications required for treatment and recovery

The fund is supported entirely through donations. Because of this, availability may be limited, but every dollar given goes directly toward helping pets receive the care they need.

Dr. John Martyn Lewis (May 7, 1964 – June 30, 2025) devoted his life to the care of animals and the people who love them. Born in Fairfax, Virginia, John built a career defined by compassion, integrity, and quiet excellence in veterinary medicine.

John served as a dedicated veterinarian and practice owner at Eastwaye Veterinary Clinic, where he poured his heart into every patient. Known for his gentle, patient approach, he earned the deep trust of pet owners and colleagues alike. He had a special gift for calming anxious animals, mentoring vet technicians and students, and approaching every case with diligence and attention to detail.

Beyond the clinic, John was a devoted husband to his wife, Teresa, and a loving father to his daughters, Kristyn and Kelly. He found joy and peace outdoors tending to his garden, walking his property, golfing, and spending time in nature. In his younger years, he loved surfing and remained a lifelong sports enthusiast. Animals were always part of his world, and he was surrounded by many animal companions throughout his life.

In 2023, John experienced a profound spiritual transformation and became a devoted member of Bethel Church, where his faith shaped the way he lived, served, and loved others. His life reflected kindness, humility, and a deep sense of purpose.

The Dr. John Martyn Lewis Angel Fund carries forward John’s legacy by helping pets receive the medical care they deserve and supporting families during difficult moments, values John lived by every day.

To ensure the Angel Fund can help as many pets as possible, patients must meet the following qualifications:

• The patient must have a history of regular and routine veterinary care
• The patient must have a good prognosis with a high likelihood of a successful outcome
• The patient must be up to date on routine vaccinations
• The patient must be spayed or neutered, if of appropriate age
• The pet owner has exhausted all other payment options, including but not limited to credit cards, CareCredit, cash reserves, and assistance from friends or family

Pet owners who meet these qualifications will be required to sign a release confirming they will comply with recommended follow-up care if necessary. The release also grants permission for the clinic to reference the case for future fundraising efforts. Pet owners will never be personally identified in any shared stories.
